Spotlight Student, September 2019

We spotlighted Kristen this month because she hit an amazing fitness goal. Kristen has lost a total of 60 pounds. Not only did she have this huge weight loss victory that changed her physically but it changed her mentally too.  

She stayed dedicated to SELF love and continually recognized how important it is to "choose yourself"  and take timeout for you daily. She also changed her eating habits and stayed mindful of what she was consuming, choosing better food choices.

Even when Kristen could not make it to the studio, she chose to stay in motion. She loves to run and take hikes. 

We are so proud of you and you are an inspiration to us and all those around you. 

In Her Words...

My weight has been an emotional roller coaster through the years. I would be stressed, I would eat, I would be more depressed because I ate and gained weight so I would eat more. The cycle went on and on and on. Anyone who has known me long enough can tell you that my happiness is reflected in my weight. And not because if I’m heavier I’m not happy...quiet the reverse if I’m not happy I’m heavier. Whether it be a serious accident in which I nearly lost my leg 10 years ago, or enduring a physically and mentally abusive boyfriend for 5 years, or jumping straight from that to watching your mom almost die to then seeing your dad battle cancer. We all have our own story, we all carry burdens, yet we all choose how to deal with it. It wasn’t until a light bulb FINALLY went off for me about a year and a half ago that I realized I had to choose me...I had to choose to be healthy, healthy physically, healthy emotionally because it wasn’t until that moment that I could dedicate my life to health. It wasn’t until that moment that I could live life to my full potential. A potential I hadn’t lived for almost 43 years. I choose then and there to be dedicated to healthy eating (yes I believe in cheat days but everything in moderation) and exercise. I’ve lost 60 pounds and I’m now driven by exercise, driven to challenge my body to do things I never thought possible. I love running and hiking now and I love taking a variety of classes at Studio Z, my home away from home. Where exercise is fun and where I get high on doing better every time I walk through the doors. When I hear an instructor yell “Kristen you are a beast”, it makes every burpee or tire lift worth it. Pushing through pain makes me feel like a warrior on days I start my workout feeling weak. Bottom line, my journey has become how good I feel physically and mentally. I owe that to me. Even though, I will ALWAYS see that girl on the left when I look at myself in the mirror and I will always be my hardest critic as I work to get 10 more pounds off, I can sit back and be so proud that I show up and I pride myself on giving nothing less than 110% every day. Anyone can make a change to better themselves, it just starts with day 1.

Each month on the 1st, we will spotlight a student.
There will be many reasons for us choosing our “Spotlight”.

We respect and value each of you and recognize how difficult
it can be to make fitness a priority in your busy lives.

We want you to feel our love and support always and know
that we are always proud of each and everyone of you!

We also want you to realize how important it is to take time
for yourself. We want you to truly love yourself and be proud
of every effort you make to be better then the day before,
minute before, year before!

Because we feel YOU are our “Lights” in this world ...
